First session
What happens at your first session
The first step is often the hardest. Here is exactly what will happen, so nothing takes you by surprise.
Step by step
Before
You book through the form or by phone. You get a confirmation with the practice's address or a link to the video call. You don't need to prepare anything.
During
The session lasts 50 minutes. I'll ask what brings you, what your days look like and what you hope for from therapy. You share as much as you want.
After
I'll tell you how I see your situation and how we could work together. Whether you want to start is up to you. If someone else could help you better, I'll tell you where to go.
Questions before the first session
What if I don't know what to say?
That's completely normal. I'll guide the conversation with questions, so you don't need to have anything worked out.
Can anything I say leave the room?
I'm bound by professional confidentiality. The law has exceptions, for example when your life or health, or someone else's, is in danger. I explain them at the start of the first session.
Can I have therapy in English if I also speak some Dutch?
Of course. Most people find it easier to talk about feelings in the language they're most at home in. Sessions are in English.
A conversation is a good place to start
Send a message or call, and we'll find a time that suits you.
